Sharlene Dee Stauffer was born in Sterling, Kansas in 1935. She studied at the Art Institute of Missouri in Kansas City, Bethany College (Lindsbog) and the Kansas State University (Manhattan, Kansas). In the last 1950s she worked for the Hallmark Card Company, in Kansas. She became a Canadian citizen in 1972. Stauffer was a founding member of Saskatoon's Shoestring Art Gallery (later A.K.A. Gallery) and taught many art classes at the Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon). Her work was widely exhibited in Saskatchewan, including at the Mendel Art Gallery, Susan Whitney Art Gallery (Regina) and North Battleford Art Centre, and can be found in the permanent collections of the Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatchewan Arts Board, Regina Public School Board and Mount Royal Collegiate (Regina). Sharlene Dee Stauffer died in Saskatoon in 2013.
