Robert Longo produced the series The Johnny Paintings in Toronto in 1994 while he was editing in post-production for the science fiction movie Johnny Mnemonic, which he directed. The short story and screenplay, set in cyberspace in the year 2021, was written by William Gibson, and the lead actor was Keanu Reeves. The Johnny series was a result of Longo's experiences while involved in this film.
