Pietro Cascella was born into a family of ceramics artists in Pescara in 1921. In 1938 he moved to Rome where he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti. He is best known for his marble sculptures which often refer to impressionism and post-impressionism. He had a distinctive archaic style that recalled the art and architecture of the ancient Mediterranean.
