Born and raised in Yorkton, Phyllis Herman has been painting since 1972 but drawing since her early childhood years. She is primarily known for her work in oil paint. "Prairie scenes are my favorite subject but I also enjoy painting flowers, animals and pencil portraits. Most of my work is done from photographs taken in rural areas." While Phyllis has taken a few painting classes over the years, her pencil work is entirely self taught. Through the community college, she has taught oil painting classes in small towns in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and has held classes in her home for over 30 years.
