Peter John Lafferty was born and raised in Behchoko, Northwest Territories, of Tlicho heritage. While drawing and painting from an early age, in 2003 Lafferty entered the Traditional Arts Program at Aurora College in Inuvik, where he studied beading, tufting and working with hides. Today he continues to live in the Northwest Territories and work in traditional mediums as well as painting.
