Peter Etril Snyder was born in Waterloo, Ontario, in 1944. He studied art at the Ontario College of Art from 1963 to 1966 before embarking on an over 50-year career highlighting the Mennonite past through original paintings. Snyder exhibited widely across Canada, including solo shows at Eaton's Art Gallery (Toronto), Harrison Galleries (Vancouver), Galerie Westmount (Montreal) and Ontario House (London, England). In 1985 one of his works entitled The Homesteaders was presented by the Canadian government as a gift to H.R.H Prince Philip. His work can be found in the permanent collections of many institutions including the Canadian Museum of History (Gatineau, Quebec). Peter Etril Snyder died in 2017 in Kitchener, Ontario.
