Paul Wunderlich was born in 1927 in Eberswalde, Germany. He studied at the Palace School of Art at Eutin Castle and in 1947 studied at Landeskunstschule in Hamburg. He later taught printmaking at at Hochschule fur bildende Kunste in Hamburg. In the early 1950 he acted a printmaker for Emil Nolde and Oskar Kokoschka. He moved to Paris in 1962 and focused on his own work, often featuring surrealist-inspired depictions of the human form. Paul Wunderlich died in 2010 at Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols, France.
