Myles Hector Charles was born in 1938 at Fox Point, Lac La Ronge Lake, in northern Saskatchewan, and is a member of the Lac La Ronge First Nation. Charles begin drawing when he was hospitalized with tuberculosis between the ages of seven and twelve. In the mid 1960s he attended the Alberta College of Art, in Calgary, graduating with a degree in fine arts. Charles paints and draws scenes from his life, and worked as a writer and a graphic artist. He illustrated many books, brochures and curriculum guides. After retirement, Charles continued artmaking, painting, and carving in soapstone, wood, and bone. His artworks have been exhibited many times, including a sweeping 2022 two-person exhibition 'Ways of Living, Ways of Teaching' at the Mann Art Gallery in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Myles Charles continues to live and create art in Lac La Ronge, Saskatchewan.
