Saskatchewan NAC Auction House Biography and Notes

Mr. Brainwash is a pseudonym of French/American artist Thierry Guetta. Guetta was born in Garges-les-Gonesse, France, in 1966. He is the central figure of the 2010 documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, directed by street artist Bansky. Guetta’s work strongly resembles that of Banksy, and some critics suspect that Guetta’s works are in fact created by Banksy himself. Guetta held his first solo show at a former TV studio in Los Angeles in 2008, and attracted over 50,000 visitors. His second show, in 2010 in New York City resulted in one piece selling for $100,000 USD. Mr. Brainwash lives and works in Los Angeles, and continues to create artworks which are strongly influenced by the work of Banksy and Shepard Fairey.
