Moshe Katz was born in 1937 in Bucherest, Romania. His family fled from the Nazis when Katz was a child, eventually settling in Haifa, Israel. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art (Jerusalem) and later at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. From 1959 he exhibited widely throughout Israel and abroad, eventually developing a distinct technique of painting with a palette knife.
