Miroslav Houra was born in 1933 in Krhanice, Czech Republic. From 1948 to 1952 he studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and in 1955 he graduated from the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague. Houra was internationally renowned for his printmaking, especially woodcuts and linocuts, but his work also included painting, ceramic mosaics, stained glass and tapestries. He died in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic, in 2006.
