Max Bill apprenticed as a silversmith, and studied at the Bauhaus (Dessau) from 1927 to 1929, where his teachers included Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. His interpretations of 'constructionism' integrated the study of geometry and mathematics into his art. Among many others, his work is found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
