Matt Lindstrom was born in 1889 in Finland to Swedish parents. He emigrated to Canada in 1929. During the Depression years he worked menial jobs, only feeding his passion for painting in the evenings. It was not until 1945, at the age of 55 that he began his career as a painter. He also received scholarships to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts. He made a career of painting the Rocky Mountains, the foothills, the prairies and the animals that occupy those places. He died in 1975.
