Laurel Johannesson was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. She studied at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, BFA, 1993 and BA, 1991), and University of Calgary (MFA, 1999), and at the Royal College of Art in London, England. Since 2005 Johannesson has participated as Artist in Residence in Iceland, Greece, Italy and France, and exhibited widely across Canada and internationally. Her work includes printmaking, digital media, painting and photography, and can be found in many public and corporate collections. Laurel Johannesson is currently a professor at the Alberta University of the Arts, Calgary.
