Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn is an artist, curator and scholar based in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed a BFA in art and design at the University of Alberta (Edmonton) in 1981, then an MA in Ukrainian Folklore at the U of A in 2016, and a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies at the same institution in 2023. She has worked in a variety of mediums, and displayed her work widely throughout Canada and abroad. Major project have included Celebrating Women a nine-city tour of 25 paintings, and Flowers of the Americas, a solo exhibition which toured six countries sponsored by the World Wide Fund for Nature. She has taught illustration and watercolour painting, and as a recognized expert in Ukrainian Canadian folklore and cultural history, she has consulted on many projects and developed courses for the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta. Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn continues to live and work in Edmonton, Alberta.
