Saskatchewan NAC Auction House Biography and Notes
Ken Christopher was born in 1942 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He studied art at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, graduating in 1964, and at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. Christopher has attended art workshops at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan, with Anthony Caro (1976), Friedel Dzubas (1977), and Maryan Harman (1985). Since the early 1970s, Christopher has exhibited his work in Canada and the United States. His landscape paintings reflect his interest in exploring natural environments - an interest tied to his personal experience of growing up on the prairies. Christopher explains his love of painting simply: "The engagement in art is an act of reverence that allows me to connect the human condition. Not to do so would make life less real." Christopher's work is represented in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Alberta Art Foundation, Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa), Canadian Embassy (New York), Glenbow Museum (Calgary), Edmonton Art Gallery, Prime Minister of Canada's Collection (Ottawa), University of Calgary, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Pacific, and Bank of Montreal. After many years in Calgary, Alberta, Ken Christopher currently lives in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
