Kananginak Pootoogook was an Inuk sculptor and printmaker who lived in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. He was born in 1935 near Cape Dorset. After moving from their traditional village to Cape Dorset in 1957, Pootoogook was a key leader in setting up the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, the first Inuit owned artist co-op. He died in 2010 following surgery for lung cancer. Kananginak Pootoogook was made a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1980, and his works can be found in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) and Muesee national des beaux-arts du Quebec, among many others.
