Josip Generalic was born in the village of Hlebine, Republic of Croatia in 1936. During his life, Josip Generalic has displayed his artworks on more than 1.000 collective exhibitions and 200 one-man exhibitions around the world. In addition to his oils on canvas and glass he did some scene paintings for Zagreb theatres, illustrated children's books and made about thirty tapestries and his serigraphs and copper-plate etchings can be found in many galleries and museums. Generalic has been acclaimed one of the greatest representatives of the 'Hlebine school' and his works can also be found in the Croatian Museum of Naive Art in Zagreb.
