Born in 1955 in El Salvador, Jose Ventura has drawn and painted as far back as he can remember. Graduating from the Art School, he worked several years at the National Museum while pursuing his painting. He studied several years in Mexico, then migrated in Canada where he continued to paint, inspired by his childhood memories, the remembrance of his native land and the discovery of his new country. After a year spent in France, haunting museums, painting and exhibiting, he returned to Canada in 1992 and became fascinated by glass. Learning the techniques of glass painting, he designed and executed stained glass pieces for churches and private homes. He perfected the blending of two traditional glass techniques, fusing and painting, to create pieces that bear the full flavor of his style. In 1996, with his partner, he created the carved glass panels that make up the entrance of St. Andrews Wesley church in downtown Vancouver. In 1998, always striving to express his vision in his highly personal, playful way, he started to paint on ceramics. Jose Ventura continues to paint on canvas, work in glass and paint on ceramics.
