Jay Lefkowitz was born in 1952 in Southfield, Michigan. He graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design (Ohio) with a BFA in sculpture. He then spent several years in Paris and Rome studying the art of sculpting with marble. He eventually returned to the United States and completed a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking. Since then, Lefkowitz has taught at Wayne State University (Detroit), Oakland Community College and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. His works can be found in permanent collections throughout the US, including Grand Valley State University (Michigan) and St. Clair Community College (Port Huron, Michigan) and in public spaces, including in Southfield, Michigan and Birmingham, Michigan. Lefkowitz works in a wide variety of media and styles, including sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking.
