Herbert Stephan Ott was born in 1915 in Kulmbach, Germany. He specialized in drawing during his art studies in Nuremberg, and from 1946 to 1952 he taught drawing at a high school in Neustadt, and then taught graphics and type design at the Coburg Trade and Business School until his retirement in 1978. Ott was renowned a Franconian illustrator for books and magazines who highlighted his community's culture and the natural countryside in his part of Germany, specializing in the creation of etchings and woodcut prints. Herbert Ott died in 1987 in Coburg, Germany.
