Saskatchewan NAC Auction House Biography and Notes
Hedwig Pauwels was born in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, in 1934, but has lived most of his life in Hasselt. He studied drawing and architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts (Sint-Niklaas) then studied graphic arts at Luca School of Arts (Ghent). He taught at the Institute for Art Education (Hasselt) while also lecturing at other institutions. While we worked in several art forms, throughout his career he was a prolific printmaker, creating hundreds of prints, often with fantastical elements and humour. His work has been widely exhibited and published, and can be found in such permanent collections at the Dutch Lithography Museum (Valkenswaard).
