Harry Guttman was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1933. He studied at Art Licuem (Bucharest) and then at the Romanian Academy of Fine Art with such important Romanian artists as Victor Brauner, Jacques Herold and Mercel Uanco. After graduating in 1960, Guttman became a member of the Romanian Association of Painters at the age of twenty-eight. Guttman's first solo exhibition was at Magheru Gallery (Bucharest) in 1963. He continued his studies in Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland, and was eventually able to emmigrate to Israel in 1974. Since then his work has been exhibited widely throughout Europe, Israel and North America. Harry Guttman died in 2015.
