Glenn Howarth was born in Vegreville, Alberta in 1946. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Victoria, graduating in 1970. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1978. He subsequently moved to Nova Scotia, where he taught at Acadia University. He also taught at the University of Saskatchewan and the Banff School of Fine Arts before ultimately returning to Victoria to teach at the University of Victoria, Victoria College of Art and from his own studio. He represented Canada at the XII Sao Paulo Biennial in Brazil. His work is held in private and public collections across Canada, including the Canada Council Art Bank, the Glenbow Museum in Calgary and the Vancouver Art Gallery. He passed away in 2009 at age 62.
