Gilbert C. Parfitt was born in England in 1886. After studying architecture in England, the remained in Winnipeg, Manitoba following a visit and worked with several local architectural firms. Parfitt became noted for his design of monuments, churches, schools and buildings of the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg). He was a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and served two terms as president of the Manitoba Association of Architects. Parfitt was also a serious painter, and studied at the Winnipeg School of Art in 1927-28, later serving on its Art Committee. Gilbert C. Parfitt lived in Winnipeg for much of his life, moving to British Columbia in 1963. He died in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1966.
