Ghitta Caiserman-Roth was born in Montreal in 1923 and died there in 2005. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and her work has been included in the collections of numerous galleries and museums across Canada, including the National Gallery of Canada. She was also the recipient of many awards, including the Centennial Medal in 1967 in recognition of her life's work, and in 2000 she was named the first recipient of the Governor General Award for Visual Arts.
