Originally from Maine, Gavin Sewell is a mixed-media artist, painter, and print-maker based in Brooklyn and Montreal. His collages and expressionistic paintings are in collections on four continents. He is a member of Painter 8 artist's collective. Sewell has written "I think of my pieces as contemporary equivalents to religious icons, memory gardens or totem poles; abstracted story-boards in which the gaze explores systems of interpretation and meaning in a shared situation with the artwork."
