Gaetan Hovington was born in 1948 in Tadoussac, Quebec. He studied under the master carver Jean-Julien Bourgault, in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. He generally carves wonderfully textured depictions of people in traditional dress, at work or at leisure, carved with great care and attention to detail. In later years he turned much of his attention to land and sea animals.
