The German-born American anthropologist, Franz Boas, was a specialist in North American Native cultures and languages in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Boas made a number of significant contributions in anthropology and ethnography, including the formulation of problems and methods in the human growth, linguistics, mythology, and art of the indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast.
