Frances Johnston's husband, Franklin Arbuckle, founded the Florence art program at the Ontario College of Art in 1974. As a result, both artists had the opportunity to live and work in Fiesole, Italy for several years. This still life with flowers is a fine example of the paintings that Johnston produced during this period.
