Fernando Amorsolo was one of the most important Filipino painters of the 20th century. After studying art in his native country, he had the opportunity to travel internationally, gaining further exposure to European artists, and contemporary Spanish masters such as Joaquin Sorolla Bastida. Following his travels, he returned to the Philippines and set up a professional studio. It was then that he gained national renown, becoming recognized for his bright depictions of pastoral scenes portraying the people and the country he knew and loved so well.
