Douglas A. Fales was born during 1929 in Montreal, Quebec. He is known for his portraits, landscape and cityscape paintings of Montreal. Fales had his first exhibition in 1943 in Verdun, Quebec, where he grew up. He studied portraiture for 4 years under R.C.A. portraitist, Adam Sherriff Scott (1943-1947), and studied life drawing with R.C.A. Arthur Lismer at the Montreal Museum of Art (1946-1949). He worked as a commercial artist creating newspaper ads for Morgan's department store until 1964.
