Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, recently separated from his wife in 1977, was reportedly miffed that protocol forbade him from bringing a date to a G7 dinner at Buckingham Palace that May. After the formal group portrait had been taken and the dignitaries dispersed, Doug Ball saw Trudeau remain in place. Surprisingly, he did a single pirouette behind their backs, and Ball was the only witness.
