Don Hefner was born in 1939 in Denver, Colorado. He came to Canada in 1967 for postgraduate studies in Education and Geology at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon. He was later an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at the university, and has also worked as a Research Assistant for the Department of Continuing Medical Education. Hefner's passion for ecological responsibility led him to create 'found' art pieces, eventually developing the intricate and precise wire and metal sculptures for which he has developed an international following. His works can be found in collections throughout Canada, the US and beyond.
