Diane Johnston was born in the United Kingdom in 1941, and studied art in the UK and Switzerland. She lived in Rhodesia for a number of years before moving to Australia, settling in Perth, Western Australia. Johnston twice won the Spinifex Prize and the Mundaring Art Prize, and her work was widely exhibited in Australia, including major shows at the Lister Gallery (Perth), Holdsworth Gallery (Sydney) and the Bay Gallery of Fine Art (Claremont). Her works can be found in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Western Australia, University of Western Australia, Perth College and the National Gallery of Zimbabwe (Harare). Diana Johnston died in 2015.
