Deborah Samuel was born in Vancouver, but by the age of fourteen had moved to Ireland, where she eventually studied art at the Limerick College of Art and Design. Samuel later returned to Canada and studied photography at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. She quickly established herself as a leading fashion and portrait photographer, working for GQ, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Entertainment Weekly, LA Times, Saturday Night and Macleans. Samuel's work has won innumerable magazine, advertising, design and photography awards, Since 2000 Samuel has focused on her personal work, with exhibitions at Photographers Gallery (London, 2002), The Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto, 2012) and The Gardiner Museum (Toronto, 2017) among many others throughout Canada and internationally. Her work can be found the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum, Winnipeg Art Museum, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and numerous other public, private and corporate collections. Samuel has lectured and led photography workshops throughout North America and published three books, Dog, Pup, (a collection of canine portraits) and The Extraordinary Beauty of Birds: Designs, Patterns, and Details. Deborah Samuel lives in Prince Edward County, Ontario.
