David Umholtz was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1943 and studied art education in Pennsylvania before coming to Canada in 1973. He taught art at the University of Saskatchewan, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, the University of Manitoba, and the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. Umholtz founded the Moosehead Press Lithography Workshop, a non profit workshop devoted to the making of prints and multiples, in Winnipeg in 1977. He managed the Press and printed lithographs, serigraphs and etchings for himself and for a distinguished list of other Canadian artists. David Ulmholtz exhibited throughout North America, and his works can be found in numerous private and public collections.
