Notable Art Works
Cornelis Pietersz Bega was born in Haarlem, Netherlands, and lived and worked in Haarlem his whole life. He studied with Adriaen van Ostade, and like him (and like van Ostade's mentor Franz Hals) focused on depicting everyday scenes of peasant figures, often interiors like taverns and country quarters. In 1654 Bega was accepted into the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke. He died in Haarlem in 1664 from the plague. Bega's works can be found in many important collections including the Getty Museum (Malibou), National Gallery of Ireland (Dublin), Petit Palace (Paris), Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) and Nationalmuseum (Stockholm).
