Christian Eckart earned his Bachelor of Fine Art in Sculpture from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1984, and his Masters in Fine Art in Painting at Hunter College in New York City in 1987. At Hunter College, Eckart studied under sculptor Robert Morris, a major figure in the development of the minimalist movement. In the late nineties, Eckart travelled and lived in New York, Berlin and Amsterdam, before eventually settling in Houston, Texas. Eckart’s work has been the subject of over 60 solo exhibitions, including museum surveys, and included in over 150 group exhibitions. His work is held in numerous prominent private and public collections internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Guggenheim (New York), The Chicago Art Institute, the National Gallery of Art (Ottawa) and the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto). In 2009, Eckart received the distinguished honour of being inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts.
