Cheryl Andrist was born in 1945 in Bienfait, Saskatchewan. She studied printmaking at the University of Regina, where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2004. Since 1998 she has taught adult and child art classes in a variety of subjects, including dyed paper, dry point etching, and scratchboard techniques. In 2005, Andrist served as a gallery educator at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, before becoming the gallery's director/curator. She retired from this position in 2008. Andrist works in numerous mediums, though she primarily focuses on oil painting, fabric, wood carving, and printmaking. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, including shows of the Organization of Saskatchewan Art Councils (OSAC), Visions Art Guild, and the Saskatchewan Craft Council. Andrist's work is represented in the collections of the Estevan Art Gallery, UNICEF National Office (Toronto), CBC Radio (Toronto) and SaskPower. In 2012, she was commissioned to create a ten-foot metal sculpture called "Free Spirit" for the City of Estevan. Andrist's work has won numerous first ribbons and honorable mentions in Moose Mountain Regional/OSAC competitions. In 2004, she won the Saskatchewan nomination of the BMO Financial Group's "1st Art! Invitational Student Art Competition." Andrist is a member of the Visions Art Guild, Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, Museum Association of Saskatchewan, and CARFAC Saskatchewan. Cheryl Andrist lives in Estevan, Saskatchewan, and creates from her home studio.
