Chalet Glass Company started in Montreal about 1960 or so as Murano Glass, a company created by several artisans who had immigrated to Canada from the glassworks in Murano, Italy. In 1962 a combination of a fire and financial incentives convinced the owners to shift operations to Cornwall, Ont. Months later the name was changed to Chalet Artistic Glass. The company became known for their pieces that featured flowing lines, dramatic shapes and brilliant colours. Rising costs and increased competition eventually resulted in Chalet Glass declaring bankruptcy in October of 1975.
