Cecil Youngfox was born in 1942, in Blind River, Ontario, to Ojibway and Metis parents. His art tended to be a mixture of his Metis heritage and Christian upbringing. Youngfox studied at the Newman Theological Centre, St. Albert, Alberta. Eventually he retuned to Northern Ontario to work in the steel industry, and painted in his spare time. In 1979 he moved to Toronto. Soon his work was celebrated in exhibitions across Canada and in the US, Portugal and Germany. Cecil Youngfox died of cancer in 1987.
