Cal Shaw was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and moved to the Northwest Territories in 2002, opening a gallery in Yellowknife. He was mentored in carving by Bill Nasogaluak and Blake Noksana. One of Shaw's sculptures was presented to the Prime Minister of Canada at the opening of the 2008 Winter Games. Cal Shaw relocated to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 2008.
