Vincent Massey Tovell was a greatly admired, multi-talented Canadian. Upon his death in 2014, The Globe and Mail wrote, "Few Canadians were as steeped in the brew of their country's culture and arts as Vincent Massey Tovell." He began his long career in broadcasting with CBC Radio in 1942 where his voice would become one of the most recognized and loved across the country. As well as amassing an estimable private art collection, Tovell was instrumental in the founding of the Canada Council of the Arts and Toronto's Design Exchange as well as being fully engaged with the National Theatre School, the National Ballet School, the Canadian Conference of the Arts and the National Gallery among other significant cultural institutions. "Winter Storm" provides us with further proof of Tovell's prodigious creative skills.
