Mario Micossi was born in Artegna, Italy in 1926. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, graduating in 1946. He traveled widely in Europe and North America following his graduation and settled in New York, where his line drawing were popular with The New Yorker and Saturday Review. His first exhibition of etchings was at the Weyhe Gallery in New York in 1963. Eventually Micossi returned to Italy, and died in Artegna in 2005. His work can be found in the collections of the Chicago Art Institute, Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Stockholm National Museum, Stuttgart Staats-Galerie and the Brooklyn Museum.
