David Maass, was born in 1929 in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. As a child he rescued wounded birds and raised pigeons, and his family were active hunters. He is a world-renowned wildlife artist, with a career spanning five decades. Maass has twice won the USA federal duck stamp competition, and was named the Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year for 1974.
